65% tax deduction

How to request the 65% tax deduction for replacing your doors and windows?

The 2014 Stability Law of the Italian Government has extended the 65% tax deduction for building energy improvements up to the end of 2014, at the current rate, which will then be gradually reduced. This is a valuable opportunity. By replacing your old doors and windows with new aluminium ones not only can you enjoy a tax credit, you will also make your rooms more comfortable and reduce your costs for heating in winter and cooling in summer.

Requirements of your home in order to claim the 65% deduction on doors and windows

The building where work is to be carried out must already exist and already have a heating system. It is important that doors and windows to be replaced delimit the heated area, so look onto the outside or unheated rooms. For tax purposes the category of doors and windows also includes entrance doors, as long as they delimit a heated area.
Unlike the deduction for building renovation that applies only to homes, the energy-saving deduction can be used for all categories of building (houses, offices, shops, manufacturing or artisan activities etc.).

What are the requirements for the new doors and windows?

The 65% tax deduction covers work on building envelopes and therefore substitution of entrance doors and windows. The new doors and windows must respect certain values for heat transfer1 that vary depending on your climate zone.

Climate zone Uw values (W/m2K)for 65% deduction
A 3.7
B 2.4
C 2.1
D 2.0
E 1.8
F 1.6

The tax deduction limit for work on building envelopes is 60,000 Euro, to be divided equally over 10 equal annual payments.

How to obtain the tax credit

If simply replacing doors or windows, you must have and produce the following documents:

  • certification from the producer of the doors and windows confirming that they comply with requirements in the heat transfer table;
  • information sheet regarding work carried out with details of whoever paid for work done, type of work and cost.

You can send these documents yourself through the Enea site. Despite the handy guide, some steps may not be clear to everyone, so we recommend getting expert advice to avoid making mistakes and thereby losing the chance of obtaining tax credits.
